Namibia Car Hire & Travel Information

A trip to Namibia means that you have plenty to see and do during your stay but as it is still far from a mainstream tourist destination it can be difficult to know where to begin.  How about a few of these places?

The town of Lüderitz can be found on the coast, backed with the Namib Desert on the other side.  This is a very Teutonic town where the architecture is very Art Deco but you can enjoy a drink and a snack in one of the pubs or cafes that have a distinctly Bavarian flavour.

If you have an interest in nature then a little time spent in the Caprivi Strip might be a good idea.  Make the most of your hire car services to head to this tropical rainforest – officially one of the top 10 destinations for bird watching in Africa.  There are around 340 species of birds here and some you will not see anywhere else.  When you visit the area you may also be lucky enough to see crocodiles, giraffes, lions and antelopes.

A growing number of visitors to Namibia come to climb the dunes at Sossusvlei.  It is recommended that you leave early to climb the giant Dune 61 because of the amazing views of the sunrise.  Others come to the country to take part in some of the conservation work.  There are conservation charities where you can pitch in to help track the animals, head out to do some game viewing and you can stay overnight in one of the lodges provided.

Consider a trip to River Canyon where you can spend a few days trekking.  Be warned though, this is not for the faint-hearted – it is only for those who have a good level of health and fitness and you should have an experienced guide with you.  There is a risk of flooding and so it is only open at certain times of the year – check ahead to make sure that you can add this to your schedule.

Your car rental will also come in useful if you want to learn more about the traditional way of life here.  Head to Kaokoland in the north of the country and meet the indigenous Himba people.  You can find out about the various tribal customs and learn a few desert survival techniques as well as spend time in one of the traditional mud huts that the Himba live in. is part of Ecommerce Group NV., which offers a range of Ecommerce services.
