Kenya Car Hire & Travel Information

You might think that all you can do in Kenya is go on safari but you would be wrong!  There are so many other attractions in the country that you will definitely be busy every day of your stay.

Kenya is popular with climbers and hikers and many come here just to climb Mount Kenya.  The mountain rises to more than 16,000 feet above sea level.  Serious climbers will make the most of the mountain huts and guides that have been created for the use of climbers.  The lower slopes are forested and are well worth exploring even if you do not want to climb any higher.   If you prefer not to try Mount Kenya then head to the volcano Mount Longonot, which hasn’t erupted since the mid-1800s.

You might want to try safari but don’t want to venture too far from the city.  This means that the ideal destination is Nairobi National Park, just 5 miles from the centre of the city and so easy to reach if you have chosen car rental.  It is actually the oldest national park in the country and has changed little since it was established.

The coral coast of Kenya is another big attraction.  Tourists can spend time snorkelling, sailing, diving and swimming in the clear waters along the coast.  Visit resorts close to Mobasa including Kikambala, Nyali and Malindi.  For more options for water sports, use your rental car to head out to Lake Naivasha, around 90 minutes’ drive from Nairobi.

For an insight into the history of the country try a trip to Lamu Town.  This is set on an island close to the country’s border with Somalia.  It is an old city and has now been awarded World Heritage Site status.  The buildings here include old Arab houses and mosques.  Visit the museum to find out more about the region’s history.

A trip on a traditional Arab boat is one that is not to be missed so why not spend an evening on a dhow?  You can take one of the dinner cruises at Mombasa but for something a little more lively consider booking an evening on one that has a dance floor!  Mombasa is also a great place to explore, with an Old Town that has changed little over the years.  Visit Fort Jesus, built originally by the Portuguese four hundred years ago and now home to a museum. is part of Ecommerce Group NV., which offers a range of Ecommerce services.
